The Rajya Sabha on December 05, 2025, issued the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2025, further to amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The following has been stated: -
•A new Section 2(7A) defines “dashboard camera” as a prescribed, tamper-proof video device installed in vehicles for safety, evidence, and accountability.
•Section 41(2A) mandates that no motor vehicle can be registered unless it has a functioning manufacturer-installed dashboard camera.
•Section 56(1A) makes a working dashboard camera a compulsory requirement for issuing or renewing a vehicle’s fitness certificate.
•Section 64(aa) empowers the Central Government to prescribe specifications, standards, installation procedures, and certification norms for dashboard cameras.
