The Government of West Bengal, on November 2025, notified regarding the prohibitory Order on Movement of Tannery Raw Materials,
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that it has issued an order following a Supreme Court directive that tanneries must not operate in the areas under Tangra, Topsia, Karaya, and Tiljala Police Stations. Due to concerns that some tanneries may resume operations illegally by obtaining electricity or water, the order prohibits the carrying of raw materials such as hides and blue wet used for running tanneries within Kolkata Police jurisdiction.
• All concerned Police Stations are directed to remain vigilant, seize any prohibited materials found, and dispose of them as per norms, with the Tannery Association designated as the receiver. As individual service of notice is not feasible, the order is issued ex parte and will be publicised through official channels. It will remain in force from November 26, 2025, to January 24, 2026, and any violation will attract legal action.
