Industry Specific ComplianceThe Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat, on December 8, 2025, published the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Development and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, introduced in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly under Rule 117. The Bill seeks to replace the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Development and Regulation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, which was promulgated by the Governor on 13 October 2025 due to the Legislature not being in session and the need for urgent reforms.

The Bill amends section 2 of the 1963 Act by inserting new definitions, including “Market of National Importance”, “National Agriculture Market”, and “Unified Single Trading Licence” to facilitate integrated agricultural trade across time and geography, digitally or otherwise. These amendments aim to modernize the agricultural market ecosystem by creating nationally integrated trading systems and enabling unified trading licences for intra- and inter-state agricultural commerce.

Furthermore, the Bill inserts a new Chapter I-IA providing for the establishment of Markets of National Importance, along with provisions for their composition and regulatory framework. The Act is deemed to have come into force on 13 October 2025, aligning it with the promulgation date of the earlier Ordinance.
