Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), on December 12, 2025, notified regarding the criteria for assessing losses under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana ( PMFBY ) is voluntary for both states and farmers. The scheme provides comprehensive risk insurance for crop losses due to unavoidable natural hazards, from pre-sowing to post-harvest, for crops/areas notified by the respective state government. Crop losses due to wild animals, which are preventable, were not covered earlier. However, at the request of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and state governments, states have been permitted to notify losses due to wild animals as an add - on cover at state government expense, based on individual assessment. The detailed protocol for such coverage is provided in the scheme's operational guidelines.

• Flood risk coverage is available for all notified crops under PMFBY. However, for hydrophilic crops such as paddy, jute, mesta, and sugarcane, such coverage is available except in the case of local claims.

• However, the Committee constituted to “ determine modalities for crop loss due to wild animal attacks and floods for paddy crop with local risk ” has submitted its report with recommendations and SOPs for coverage of these risks
