The Lok Sabha on December 05, 2025, issued the Dairy Farmers (Welfare) Bill, 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Bill seeks to provide a dedicated welfare framework for dairy farmers across India by establishing a Dairy Farmers Welfare Committee to study sectoral issues and recommend supportive measures.
• It mandates the creation of a Dairy Farmers Welfare Fund, to be financed by the Central Government, to support social security, insurance (personal accident and health cover), and pension benefits for dairy farmers.
• The Committee is tasked to recommend subsidies and measures to reduce production costs, promote registration of milch animals, and improve overall livelihoods in the dairy sector.
• The law empowers the government to make rules for implementation and aims to strengthen institutional support for one of India’s largest primary producer groups.
