The Government of Maharashtra on December 12, 2025, issued the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to further amend the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960.
The following has been stated: -
•The amendment to Section 154 B-8 (1) expands members’ right to inspect all general documents, records, and audio-visual materials of the society free of charge during office hours.
•It removes the restrictive list of documents to reduce disputes and improve access to information.
•Personal and confidential information protected by privacy laws and bye-laws remains excluded.
•The objective is to enhance transparency, accountability, and democratic functioning of co-operative societies.
