• The document outlines the road safety governance framework in Maharashtra, including the establishment and functions of the State Road Safety Council and District Road Safety Committees to coordinate accident prevention and safety programmes.
• It reviews road accident statistics over recent years and highlights the importance of systemic measures such as road safety education, enforcement of traffic laws, and targeted interventions at identified black spots. The report details the implementation of the iRAD app usage for real-time accident data collection and emphasizes awareness campaigns, training for drivers, and counselling initiatives to improve compliance and reduce fatalities.
• It also explains the road safety cess collected under motor vehicle laws to fund safety initiatives and mechanisms for inspection, enforcement, and public engagement across the state.
• Overall, it presents Maharashtra’s multi-pronged strategy combining policy, enforcement, education, and data-driven actions to enhance road safety outcomes.
