The Government of Tamil Nadu, on December 4, 2025, issued a notification amending the Tamil Nadu Hostels and Homes for Women and Children (Regulation) Rules, 2015, in exercise of powers under Section 25(1) of the Tamil Nadu Hostels and Homes for Women and Children (Regulation) Act, 2014.
The amendment brings a significant change in space norms, whereby the minimum area requirement prescribed under Rule 5(2) has been reduced from 120 square feet to 50 square feet. A corresponding amendment has also been carried out in Form-II, Condition No. 4, to maintain consistency with the revised spatial requirement.
These amendments are aimed at rationalising infrastructural norms applicable to hostels and homes for women and children, potentially easing compliance and facilitating wider availability of regulated accommodation, while continuing to operate within the statutory framework of the 2014 Act.
