The Ministry of Coal, on December 18, 2025, issued a notification regarding an amendment to the Policy on Handling and Disposal of Coal Washery Reject.
The following has been stated: -
•The Ministry of Coal has amended the Policy on Handling and Disposal of Coal Washery Rejects issued in May 2021.
•The requirement of obtaining prior permission from the Coal Controller’s Organisation (CCO) for disposal of HCV/LCV rejects has been replaced with an information-submission mechanism.
•Owners or deemed owners must now submit details in a prescribed format, certify the calorific value of rejects, and provide an undertaking of due diligence.
•CCO’s role shifts from prior approval and inspection to post-submission oversight based on self-certification.
