The Ministry of Steel (MoS) on December 17, 2025, issued the revised Domestically Manufactured Iron & Steel Products Policy-2025.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Revised Policy provides mandatory preference to domestically manufactured iron and steel products in government procurement, superseding the earlier policy.
• It applies to notified iron and steel items (Appendix A), capital goods used in steel manufacturing (Appendix B), and procurement of indigenous technologies (Appendix C).
• The policy defines domestic value addition in line with DPIIT guidelines and mandates “Melt & Pour” in India for specified products, along with self-certification and audit requirements.
• A purchase preference of up to 20% is extended to domestic suppliers for eligible capital goods, while restrictions are placed on global tenders below prescribed thresholds.
• The policy aims to promote self-reliance, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and encourage adoption of indigenous technologies, with monitoring and grievance redressal overseen by the Ministry of Steel.
