The Government of Madhya Pradesh on December 19, 2025, notified the Madhya Pradesh Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 2025, further to amend the Madhya Pradesh Municipalities Act, 1961.
The following has been stated: -
•In Section 19 Clause (a) is substituted to include: "the President, that is, the Chairperson, elected by direct election from the Municipal area".
•In Section 20 in case of the election of a President, a petition may be presented by any voter of the Municipal area. Petitions must be presented within thirty days from the date the result was notified in the Gazette.
•It shall come into force from December 19, 2025.
