The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) December 01, 2025, notified regarding the Scheme to Promote Registration of Employers/ Employees (SPREE 2025) under ESIC and implementation of the Code on Social Security 2020.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It highlights the pan-India implementation of the four Labour Codes from November 21, 2025, including the Code on Social Security, 2020, making the ESI Scheme mandatory for all establishments employing 10 or more persons, including educational and medical institutions in notified areas.
• Such unregistered institutions are required to register immediately through the Shram Suvidha Portal, with employers being responsible for ESI contributions for both direct and contractual employees.
• To facilitate compliance, ESIC has approved SPREE 2025, a one-time scheme effective from 1 July to 31 December 2025, allowing voluntary registration without retrospective penalties, inspections, or past dues.
• Under SPREE 2025, employers and employees will be covered from the date of registration, ensuring wider social security coverage, especially for contractual and temporary workers, and promoting an inclusive and welfare-oriented labour ecosystem.
