The Rajasthan Fisheries Department, on October 06, 2025, issued a preliminary notification publishing the draft Rajasthan Fisheries (Draft Amendment) Rules, 2025, in exercise of powers under Section 5 of the Rajasthan Fisheries Act, 1953, inviting objections and suggestions from stakeholders within twenty-one days of publication in the Official Gazette.
The draft amendments propose key structural changes to the existing Rajasthan Fisheries Rules, 1958, including the deletion of sub-rule (5) of Rule 5 and substitution of Rule 5A, providing that waters situated in Scheduled Areas of Rajasthan (excluding municipal areas) may be allotted to Registered Tribal Fisherman Co-operative Societies at a reserve price. The proposed framework specifies that B-category waters shall be allotted by the Director, Fisheries, while C and D category waters shall be allotted by the concerned District Fishery Officer.
Further, the draft seeks to amend Rule 6 by deleting references to Panchayati Raj Institutions’ authorities in cases of water transfer, thereby streamlining the allotment process. Stakeholders may submit objections or suggestions to the Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries Department, Rajasthan Secretariat, Jaipur, within the prescribed period, after which the draft rules will be considered for final notification.
