The Government of Kerala on December 19, 2025, issued a notification exercising its powers under Section 27 of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, to bring a new category of employment within the statutory minimum wage framework in the State.
Pursuant to an earlier draft notification dated March 3, 2025, and in the absence of any objections or suggestions within the prescribed period, the State Government has decided that minimum rates of wages are required to be fixed for employment in the Gymnasiums sector in Kerala.
Accordingly, the notification amends Part I of the Schedule to the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 (as applicable to Kerala) by adding “Employment in Gymnasium” as a scheduled employment, thereby enabling fixation and enforcement of minimum wages for workers engaged in this sector across the State.
