The Drugs Control Administration, Govt. of Telangana on December 18, 2025, issued an Advisory to All Retail and Wholesale Medical Shops and the General Public in the State of Telangana.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The advisory highlights concerns over the indiscriminate sale of prescription and habit-forming medicines by certain medical shops, including drugs like Mephentermine and Atracurium Besylate injections, which pose serious health risks if misused.
• It reiterates that medicines classified under Schedule H, H1, and X of the Drugs Rules can be sold only by licensed pharmacies against a valid prescription issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner, with mandatory maintenance of prescribed records.
• The advisory warns that misuse or illegal diversion of such drugs may lead to severe health consequences, including respiratory depression, coma, or death.
• Any violation will attract stringent action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, including cancellation of licences and prosecution by the DCA, Telangana.
• Medical shops are directed to ensure strict compliance, while the public is advised against self-medication and encouraged to report illegal sale or misuse to safeguard public health.
