The Government of Tamil Nadu, on December 24, 2025, issued the draft amendment in the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following has been stated namely: -
• For rule 288-A, the following rule shall be substituted, namely:- “288-A Notwithstanding anything contained in rules 288, in cases where a State Transport Undertaking cannot procure its own vehicle to run regular service in a nationalized route, the State Transport undertaking shall be at liberty to run any private vehicle taken on hire or lease duly obtaining a permit by an application in Form SCPA (STU) for such Vehicle’’.
• Objections or suggestions, if any, should be addressed in duplicate to the additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Home Department, Secretariat, Chennai-600 009, within January 23, 2026.
