The Government of Delhi on December 24, 2025, issued a notification regarding the removal of ECC Exemption for Commercial Vehicles Carrying Essential Commodities.
The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, through its order dated September 26, 2025, directed the removal of exemptions from the Environment Compensation Charge (ECC) for commercial vehicles carrying essential commodities, pursuant to its earlier order dated October 09, 2015. Accordingly, earlier notifications issued by the Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi between October 2015 and February 2016—granting ECC exemptions to such vehicles—have been withdrawn to the extent that the exemption for commercial vehicles carrying essential commodities is removed.
