The Labour Welfare and Skill Development (J1) Department, Tamil Nadu, on September 30, 2025, issued a notification regarding the revision of minimum rates of wages for Employment in Salt Pans.
The following has been stated: -
•The Government revised the minimum rates of wages for employment in Salt Pans under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
•A Preliminary Notification was subsequently issued proposing further revision of these wages.
•Objections and suggestions received were examined by the Minimum Wages (State) Advisory Board, which decided to confirm the notification without modification.
•The schedule prescribes minimum daily wages for various Salt Pan workers, including Scraping, Transporting, Maramath, Pumping Man, Pump Attender, and Maistry.
•Wages range from ₹280–₹284 per day, with piece-rate payments for transporting salt and a monthly wage of ₹8,286 for Maistry.
