Labour ComplianceThe Government of Nagaland on November 29, 2025, issued the notification regarding the Clarification on engagement of women employees during night hours under Section 20 of the Nagaland Shops & Establishment Act, 1986.

The following has been stated namely: -

• Clarification has been issued regarding Section 20 of the Nagaland Shops & Establishments Act, 1986, which restricts employment of women and persons below 17 years before 6:00 A.M. and after 7:00 P.M.

• The Act does not impose a blanket ban on employing women above 17 years during night hours, subject to prescribed safeguards.

• Engagement of women beyond 7:00 P.M. is permitted only with their written consent and adequate workplace security arrangements.

• Employers must provide safe transportation, ensure non-discriminatory wages and service conditions, and comply with all statutory provisions on working hours and benefits.
