The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, on December 24, 2025, issued a notification regarding the prohibition of Open Burning to Curb Air Pollution.
The following has been stated: -
•Due to severe winter air pollution and high PM2.5 and PM10 levels, Delhi authorities have reiterated strict measures to control pollution.
•Open burning of biomass, leaves, municipal solid waste, plastic, rubber, or any combustible material is completely prohibited.
•RWAs, housing societies, institutions, and establishments must provide adequate heating alternatives (such as electric heaters) to staff to prevent open burning.
•The directions are effective immediately for the winter season, with violations punishable under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
