Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Ministry of Finance (MoF) on December 30, 2025, issued a notification regarding the imposition of Safeguard Duty on Steel Flat Products.

The following has been stated: -

•Due to a sudden and significant surge in steel imports causing injury to domestic producers, the Government has imposed a safeguard duty on specified non-alloy and alloy steel flat products.

•The duty is levied for three years from April 21, 2025, at 12% (Year 1), 11.5% (Year 2), and 11% (Year 3), following an earlier provisional duty.

•Safeguard duty will not apply where imports meet or exceed specified CIF import price thresholds for different product categories.

•Certain imports from specified developing countries are exempt, subject to country-wise and product-wise exclusions.
