EHS ComplianceThe Amdavad Municipal Corporation on December 01, 2025, issued a notification regarding the ban on single-use plastics.

Pursuant to the amendment of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) dated August 12, 2021, and with the approval of General Board Resolution No. 313 of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) dated 26 November 2021, a comprehensive ban on single-use plastic (SUP) has been enforced within Ahmedabad city.

The notification mandates minimum thickness standards for carry bags—75 microns from 30 September 2021 and 120 microns from 31 December 2022, while non-woven carry bags must be at least 60 GSM. Further, the manufacture, import, storage, distribution, sale, and use of specified single-use plastic items, including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene products, have been prohibited with effect from July 01, 2022.

The ban applies across all AMC offices, municipal hospitals, schools, libraries, civic centers, gardens, party plots, community halls, riverfront and lakefront areas, and other AMC-owned premises. It also extends to social, religious, cultural, and public events, including weddings and festivals. Heads of offices are responsible for ensuring strict implementation, and the circular is to be widely displayed and communicated to ensure compliance.
