The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on January 19, 2026, notified the establishment of amendments to certain Indian Standards in exercise of powers under Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The notification gives effect to amendments across multiple standards relating to construction equipment, mechanical appliances, steel products and industrial valves, as detailed in the Schedule annexed to the notification.
The amendments include Amendment No. 1 (January 2026) to IS 1791:2020 (Batch Type Concrete Mixers), IS 3315:2024 (Direct Evaporative Air Coolers), IS 5456:2024 (Positive Displacement Air Compressors and Exhausters) and IS 9550:2024 (Bright Steel Bars); Amendment No. 7 (January 2026) to IS 9523:2000 (Ductile Iron Fittings); and Amendment No. 3 (January 2026) to IS 13095:2020 (Butterfly Valves for General Purposes). Each of these amendments was established on 16 January 2026.
BIS has further provided a transition period of six months, during which the respective standards without the amendments shall remain in force up to 15 July 2026, allowing manufacturers and stakeholders adequate time to align with the revised technical requirements.
