The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPS&W) on January 23, 2026, issued the Draft Indian Port Rules, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•Chapter I shall apply to all ports to which the Act applies, whereas other Chapters under these rules shall apply to ports in such manner:
a. to major ports, all rules, made hereunder
b. rules made under section 78(2), i.e., rules 12 to 46, rule 55, rules 57 to 66, and rules made under section 76(2), i.e., rule 67.
•Section 2 lays down various definitions of terms like arrival report and auditing authority.
•Section 3 specifies the appointments.
•Section 4 specifies the appointment of other officers at the port.
Objections and suggestions may be submitted till February 22, 2026.
