Labour ComplianceThe Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), on January 30, 2026, issued a notification specifying the wage ceiling for persons employed in a supervisory capacity for the purposes of the definition of “worker” under the Code on Wages, 2019.

The notification, issued in exercise of powers under sub-clause (d) of clause (z) of section 2 of the Code on Wages, 2019, prescribes ₹18,000 per month as the wage ceiling for supervisory employees. This clarification determines the applicability of labour protections under the Code.

Accordingly, any person employed in a supervisory capacity and drawing wages exceeding ₹18,000 per month shall stand excluded from the definition of “worker” under the said provision, thereby limiting the scope of benefits and obligations applicable to such employees.
