The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on February 03, 2026, issued directions to all Agency Banks pursuant to a request received from the Government of India to ensure timely accounting of government receipts and payments for the Financial Year 2025–26.
The RBI has advised that all bank branches handling Government business shall remain open for public transactions on March 31, 2026 (Tuesday), notwithstanding the day being a public holiday. This measure is intended to facilitate the proper booking of all Government transactions within the same financial year.
Agency Banks have also been instructed to give wide publicity regarding the availability of banking services on this day, so that government departments and the public are adequately informed and able to complete their transactions without inconvenience.
