The Government of Madhya Pradesh on February 02, 2026, issued a notification regarding the awareness and preventive health measures to prevent natural and accidental deaths below the age of 60 years.
The Government of Madhya Pradesh is implementing the Chief Minister Jankalyan Sambal Yojana for unorganised sector workers aged 18 to 60 years, under which benefits are extended to registered workers and their families. Historically, assistance under the scheme has been provided in over 60,000 death cases annually. During 2024–25, benefits were extended in about 57,000 cases of natural deaths and 5,800 cases of accidental deaths. Given that benefits are limited to workers up to 60 years of age—while the average life expectancy in the state is around 67 years—the high incidence of deaths within the working-age population is a serious concern.
These figures highlight the need for focused preventive and awareness-based interventions to address issues affecting labour productivity, economic security of families, and overall worker health. To this end, districts are encouraged to initiate coordinated measures such as organising labour health and awareness camps on preventive healthcare and lifestyle diseases; strengthening workplace safety and accident prevention, particularly in high-risk sectors; linking workers with regular primary and preventive health services; and ensuring effective inter-departmental coordination among Labour, Health, Police, Transport, and local administration.
Further, districts should conduct regular monthly reviews to analyse causes of deaths among workers and identify preventive strategies. Treating the prevention of deaths in the working-age group as a core administrative and public policy responsibility, such coordinated and institutional interventions are expected to improve worker welfare, enhance family security, and contribute to broader social stability.
