The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoCF) on February 06, 2026, notified regarding the Sale of Banned Medicines.
The following has been stated:
• The Department of Pharmaceuticals provided data on the sale of banned medicines in India under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act. According to information given by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, there were no drugs banned in 2021 and 2022.
• In 2023, 14 human-use and 2 animal-use drugs were banned; in 2024, 157 human-use and 1 animal-use drugs were banned; and in 2025, 1 human-use and 36 animal-use drugs were banned.
• Several writ petitions have been filed in High Courts challenging the ban on certain fixed-dose combinations (FDCs), and courts have granted interim protection for products already in the distribution network.
• The manufacture, sale, and distribution of banned drugs remain punishable under the Act, and state licensing authorities take action on complaints with support from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
