The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAFPD) on January 30, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Sugar Stockholding Limits and Release Quota for February 2026
The following has been stated namely: -
• All sugar producers using the vacuum pan process must maintain white/refined sugar stock up to February 28, 2026, with permissible sale and dispatch limited to mill-wise quantities specified by the Government.
• Excess sugar sold in November 2025 will be deducted from the February 2026 release quota, while short utilization in that month has been exempted; non-compliance may lead to reduction or denial of future release quotas.
• Sugar mills must integrate their ERP/SAP systems with the NSWS portal by February 10, 2026, submit required monthly returns, comply with 20% jute packaging norms, and any violation will attract penalties under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
