The India International Depository IFSC Limited (IFSC) on February 09, 2026, notified regarding the obtaining of ISIN in IFSC from IIDI.
The following has been stated:
• The circular mandates that all Units in IFSC intending to dematerialise securities or other permitted financial products must obtain ISINs from the IFSCA-recognised depository, India International Depository IFSC Limited (IIDI). Units that have already obtained ISINs from domestic depositories in India are required to obtain fresh ISINs from IIDI by August 31, 2026.
• It applies to all IFSC Units that currently hold ISINs with domestic depositories or intend to undertake future issuances in the IFSC. All IFSC Issuer Entities shall admit their securities with IIDI, obtain ISINs from IIDI, and ensure dematerialisation through IIDI.
• Three procedural scenarios have been outlined. For new issuers in IFSC, entities shall submit prescribed documents to IIDI, appoint an RTA, pay requisite fees, and investors shall open demat accounts with registered DPs of IIDI.
• For entities that have ISINs with domestic depositories but no holdings, the entity shall apply to IIDI, withdraw the ISIN from the domestic depository, obtain confirmation, and complete onboarding with IIDI.
• For entities with existing ISINs and holdings in domestic depositories, investors shall first rematerialise their shares, after which the issuer shall withdraw the ISIN domestically and obtain a new ISIN from IIDI. Investors shall then open demat accounts in IFSC and re-dematerialise the securities with IIDI.
• For faster implementation, issuers may initially submit digitally signed documents for onboarding and ISIN issuance, but shall submit physically signed and attested documents within 10 days from the date of ISIN issuance.
