Secretarial ComplianceThe Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL), on February 10, 2026, issued a communiqué to Depository Participants (DPs) regarding the Facility for Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA), in reference to its earlier communiqué dated August 26, 2024, and SEBI Circular dated June 28, 2024. The communication provides updated details of Beneficial Owners (BOs) eligible for BSDA based on data shared between CDSL and NSDL as on January 31, 2026.

The eligibility criteria for BSDA include: (i) demat accounts under Individual, Non-Resident Individual (NRI), and Foreign National categories; (ii) total holding value of securities not exceeding ₹10 lakhs (for debt and other than debt securities combined) as on January 31, 2026; and (iii) only one demat account of the first holder across depositories where verified PAN is available (excluding PAN-exempt BO IDs). Based on these parameters, CDSL has shared lists of eligible BO IDs, PAN-exempt eligible accounts, multiple-account holders marked as BSDA, and all accounts with BSDA flag status through files placed in respective DPs’ billing folders.

DPs have been advised to review the provided data files, including those identifying multiple accounts linked to the same PAN, and to take necessary action such as unmarking ineligible accounts as BSDA through BO modify upload, while informing the concerned BOs accordingly. The communiqué also clarifies status indicators for BSDA eligibility—Eligible (E), Multiple Accounts (M), or Not Eligible (N).
