The Government of Goa, on February 05, 2026, notified the Business of the Government of Goa (Allocation) (Fifty-fifth Amendment) Rules, 202,6 to further amend the Business of the Government of Goa (Allocation) Rules, 1987.
The following has been stated: -
•Serial No. 18 revised to define the roles of the Department of Captain of Ports covering inland waterways, navigation, navigational aids, and port-related matters.
•Responsibilities include implementation of the Inland Vessels Act, the Indian Ports Act, maritime rules, and development of port infrastructure, inland transport, cruises, and island tourism.
•Department oversees lighthouses, shipping safety, maritime education/training, inland vessel crew certification, and management of maritime institutions and assets.
•Designated as the State Ports Department and Authority for Inland Waterways with control over minor ports, territorial waters (up to 12 nautical miles), navigable channels, and related infrastructure.
They shall come into force from February 05, 2026.
