The Government of Himachal Pradesh, on September 24, 2025, notified the Nalagarh Municipal Council (Registration and Control of Pet Dogs) Bye-laws, 2025
The following has been stated: -
•Mandatory registration of pet dogs above 3 months with ₹500 one-time fee and ₹500 annual licence; maximum two dogs per family.
•Owners must ensure vaccination, cleanliness, leash control, proper care, and prevent nuisance; stray or unregistered dogs may be seized.
•Separate registration, fees, and operational rules prescribed for dog breeders and dog care centres.
•Inspection powers and penalties introduced for violations; bye-laws effective from Gazette publication, replacing the earlier 1984 rules.
These shall come into force from September 24, 2025.
