The Ministry of Home Affairs, on February 11, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Disaster Management (Amendment) Act, 2025, to further amend the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
The following has been stated: -
•Rapid urbanisation has led to the introduction of Urban Disaster Management Authorities (UDMAs) under Section 41A of the amended Disaster Management Act, mandating states to address city-specific risks like floods and heatwaves.
•The Disaster Management (Amendment) Act, 2025, introduced a National Disaster Database and promoted AI-driven forecasting systems under Mission Mausam for improved disaster preparedness.
•The High-Level Committee (HLC) now has statutory status and has approved significant funding from NDRF and NDMF for disaster response, mitigation, and community resilience programmes.
•India has strengthened global leadership in disaster management through initiatives like CDRI and international humanitarian operations such as Operation Dost and Operation Brahma.
