The Government of Meghalaya on October 30, 2026, enacted the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act, 2025, as published in the Gazette of Meghalaya (Extraordinary) on October 30, 2025, to further amend the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act, 1973 (originally the Assam Town and Country Planning Act, 1959, as adopted by Meghalaya).
The Amendment Act provides that it shall be called the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act, 2025, and shall come into force at once. It introduces changes to Section 2 of the principal Act by inserting new definitions after sub-section (16).
The amendment inserts sub-section (17) defining “Town and Country Planning Scheme” as a layout plan within a designated planning area conceived within the framework of the Master Plan, and sub-section (18) defining “Town and Country Planning Officer” as the District Urban Planner.
