The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) on February 09, 2026, issued the Draft Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (Dock Work) Central Regulations, 2026.
The following has been stated namely: -
• They shall apply to all the major ports in India as defined in the Indian Port Act 2025
• Every Place where dock workers are employed shall, be provided with: -
o Sufficient and suitable fire-extinguishing equipment
o An adequate water supply at ample pressure as per national standards.
• Regulation for safe means of access to ships, holds, staging, equipment, lifting appliances and other working places has been stated.
• Regulation providing for the safety of workers engaged in the opening and closing of hatches, protection of ways and other openings in the docks which may be dangerous to them has been stated.
