The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on February 13, 2026, informed that the film certification process undertaken by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has been streamlined through the fully digitized e-Cinepramaan portal. The certification process operates under the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024.
As per Rule 37 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, the stipulated time limit for certification of films is 48 working days. The Government has implemented the online certification system to modernize procedures, enhance transparency, and address industry concerns regarding efficiency and delays.
Owing to the digitized e-Cinepramaan portal, the current average time for certification is significantly reduced and well within the prescribed limit—approximately 18 working days for feature films and 3 working days for short films—thereby improving ease of doing business in the film sector.
