The Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoCI) on February 16, 2026, issued the Index Numbers of Wholesale Price in India for the Month of January, 2026 (Base Year: 2011-12).
The annual rate of inflation based on All India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) number is 1.81% (provisional) for the month of January, 2026 (over January, 2025). Positive rate of inflation in January, 2026 is primarily due to increase in prices of manufacture of basic metals, other manufacturing, non-food articles, food articles and textiles etc. The index numbers and inflation rate for the last three months of all commodities and WPI components are given in the Table.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for January 2026 showed mixed month-over-month movements across major commodity groups. Prices of Primary Articles declined slightly due to lower food article and mineral prices, even as non-food articles and crude petroleum & natural gas recorded increases. The Fuel & Power index also fell, driven by declines in electricity and mineral oil prices, while coal prices edged up. In contrast, Manufactured Products registered a broad-based increase, with most industry groups—such as basic metals, food products, textiles, and electrical equipment—reporting higher prices, though pharmaceuticals and machinery saw declines.
The WPI Food Index decreased from December 2025 to January 2026, reflecting lower food prices overall, although the year-on-year inflation rate for the food index rose to 1.41%. The final WPI for November 2025 stood at 156.2 with an annual inflation rate of –0.13%. Provisional WPI figures are subject to revision in line with the official policy.
These indices are compiled monthly by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade based on data from institutional and manufacturing sources across India. The WPI for February 2026 is scheduled for release on March 16, 2026.
