Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Meghalaya, on February 10, 2026, notified the Meghalaya Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (Amendment) Rules, 2024, to amend the Meghalaya Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.

The following has been stated: -

•Schedule XI of the Meghalaya Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011 is substituted to revise compounding fees for various offences under Rule 25.

•Differentiated compounding amounts are prescribed based on category—hawkers, retailers, wholesale dealers, manufacturers/packers/importers, petroleum industry, and government/PSUs.

•Higher penalties are fixed for the manufacture or sale of non-standard weights and measures (up to ₹1,00,000 for manufacturers).

•The revised fees also cover offences relating to non-standard transactions, quoting non-standard units, non-production of documents, and sale or services using non-standard weights or measures.

They shall come into force with immediate effect.
