The Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) on February 13, 2026, notified regarding the implementation of the Action Plans for the prevention and elimination of Wheat Stubble Burning in 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The CAQM, through the referenced Direction, has issued mandatory instructions to State Governments, UT Administrations, and concerned authorities to implement strict and time-bound measures for controlling air pollution in identified hotspots and adjoining areas.
• The Direction focuses on curbing emissions from key sources such as construction activities, industrial units, vehicular pollution, road dust, and open burning of waste and biomass.
• Authorities have been directed to ensure enforcement of dust mitigation measures at construction and demolition sites, regulate operations of polluting industries and hot mix plants where required, prohibit open burning, strengthen vehicle emission checks, and enhance monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
• The Direction also emphasizes coordinated action among departments, stricter compliance monitoring, and transparency in implementation to safeguard public health and improve overall air quality.
