The Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh on February 17, 2026, issued the Andhra Pradesh Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2025, to replace the Andhra Pradesh Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 1999.
This shall take effect from February 17, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The rules streamline and modernize the procedure for registration of births and deaths in the State. The Rules mandate the compulsory registration of every birth and death within 21 days of occurrence, with provision for delayed registration upon payment of the prescribed late fees and, in certain cases, with the approval of the competent authority.
• They prescribe standardized forms and reporting procedures, assign clear responsibilities to hospitals and institutions for reporting events occurring under their care, and require families or informants to report domiciliary events.
• The Rules also emphasize digital registration through the Civil Registration System to ensure accuracy, transparency, and timely issuance of certificates.
• Penalties are provided for non-compliance or failure to report events within the stipulated time, thereby strengthening the civil registration framework in Andhra Pradesh.
