The Government of Karnataka, on February 18, 2026, notified the Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority (Amendment) Act, 2025, further to amend the Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority Act, 2014.
The following has been stated: -
•The Government of Karnataka has amended Section 12 of the Act to permit specified public utility works such as roads, bridges, water supply lines, STPs, and related infrastructure within tank areas and buffer zones, subject to approval.
•Such permissions must ensure that the original tank capacity is not reduced and that the natural inflow and outflow of water remain unobstructed.
•Revised buffer zone limits are prescribed based on tank size, and pollution control siting guidelines will prevail for new industries (excluding healthcare and infrastructure projects).
•Clause (6) of Section 12 has been omitted, and the amendment will be published in the Official Gazette under Article 348(3) of the Constitution of India.
It shall come into force at once.
