The Government of Odisha on February 09, 2026, notified regarding the Prohibition of Tobacco‑Mixed Food Products.
The following has been stated:
• The Government prohibits the manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transport, distribution, and sale of any food products containing tobacco or nicotine in the state. The ban covers products such as gutkha, pan masala with tobacco, zarda, khaini, and other flavoured or scented chewable tobacco products, including those sold in separate sachets but intended to be mixed and consumed together.
• The decision follows health concerns highlighted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer and directions of the Supreme Court of India to strictly enforce the prohibition on tobacco-mixed food products.
• The notification aims to protect public health, particularly due to the high prevalence of smokeless tobacco use in Odisha.
