Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) on March 13, 2026, issued the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Order, 2026.

This shall come into force from March 13, 2026.

The following has been stated:

• The order mandates that specified aluminium and aluminium alloy products shall conform to the relevant Indian Standards (IS) and shall bear the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Standard Mark under a valid BIS licence. The order applies to a wide range of aluminium products such as aluminium alloy tubes for irrigation, EC grade aluminium rods, aluminium foil for pharmaceutical packaging, aluminium composite panels, corrugated aluminium sheets, aluminium alloy forgings, bars, rods, plates, sheets, strips, wires, and tubes used for engineering, electrical and utensil manufacturing purposes.

• The implementation timeline varies by enterprise size. Some products require compliance with immediate effect, while others have phased implementation—generally December 01, 2026, for large enterprises, March 01, 2027, for small enterprises, and June 01, 2027, for micro enterprises.

• Products manufactured domestically for export are exempt from the mandatory BIS mark requirement. Additionally, manufacturers may import up to 200 kg of aluminium products per year for research and development purposes, provided the materials are not sold commercially and are disposed of as scrap after use, while maintaining proper records.

• The order replaces the earlier 2025 Quality Control Order.
