The Government of Tripura on March 10, 2026, issued the Tripura Urban Planning and Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, further to amend the Tripura Urban Planning and Development Act, 2018.
The following has been amended:
• A new definition has been inserted in section 2, defining it as a temporary planning document prepared during the period when the final Master Plan is still under preparation, outlining land-use zoning and basic regulations to guide construction approvals until the final Master Plan becomes operational.
• New sections 66A and 66B have been inserted, empowering the State Government to direct the planning authority to prepare and publish an Interim/Draft Master Plan within three months when a final Master Plan is under preparation. This interim plan will come into force upon publication and remain valid until the final Master Plan is notified.
• Additionally, the amendment clarifies that if the Interim/Draft Master Plan is not published within the prescribed period, construction activities may continue under the existing provisions.
• Section 78 has also been amended by removing the words “or under preparation,” thereby refining the definition of unauthorized development with reference to the applicable Master Plan.
