The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on March 13, 2026, notified the Status of Enforcement Actions across key sectors for Abatement of Air Pollution in Delhi-NCR reviewed by the CAQM.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) held the 24th meeting of its Sub-Committee on Safeguarding and Enforcement to review actions taken by NCR State Governments, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, and the Government of Punjab to control air pollution in the region. The meeting assessed enforcement measures across multiple sectors contributing to pollution and reviewed compliance with statutory directions, advisories, and orders issued by the Commission.
Key discussions focused on the vehicular sector, including identification of traffic congestion hotspots, installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at border entry points, enforcement against older polluting vehicles, and the phasing out of diesel auto-rickshaws by December 31, 2026, replacing them with CNG or electric alternatives. The progress of cleaner mobility initiatives for vehicle aggregators, delivery services, and e-commerce entities was also reviewed.
The committee also evaluated measures to reduce road dust, construction and demolition waste, and stubble burning, including increased mechanical road sweeping, better waste processing, and the promotion of paddy straw-based biomass pellets in brick kilns. Additionally, actions related to municipal solid waste management, industrial emission standards, expansion of air quality monitoring stations, and enforcement inspections were reviewed. Authorities committed to strengthening enforcement and regularly monitoring pollution control measures across the Delhi-NCR region.
