The Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) on March 02, 2026, issued corrigendum to the e-PoS technical specifications issued by the Department.
The Department has revised the minimum technical specifications for e-PoS devices used at Fair Price Shops (FPS) under the SMART-PDS initiative. These revisions follow earlier specifications issued on October 9, 2025, and December 3, 2025, and were finalized after examining queries from States/UTs and industry stakeholders through an expert committee.
The updated specifications mainly modify Serial No. 14 of the earlier guidelines. The committee has recommended that the use of L1 IRIS scanners be made optional, and wherever IRIS scanners are deployed, they must be UIDAI-STQC certified to ensure compliance and security.
The Central Assistance to States and Union Territories for FPS automation will continue to be provided as per the provisions of the National Food Security Act, 2013.
