The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on March 9, 2026, issued an office order extending the National Control Room (NCR) established to monitor the nationwide enforcement of the ban on identified single-use plastic (SUP) items, implemented under the framework of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
The National Control Room, initially set up to oversee the enforcement campaign from December 2025 to February 2026, has now been extended for six months from March 1, 2026, to August 31, 2026. The control room will supervise enforcement actions across states, coordinate with State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) and Pollution Control Committees (PCCs), provide clarifications to stakeholders, and support nationwide awareness initiatives related to the SUP ban.
The NCR will also monitor compliance activities and compile weekly progress reports for submission to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, ensuring coordinated implementation of the plastic ban across the country.
