The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on March 16, 2026, notified regarding the Currency Chest operations on March 31, 2026.
The Reserve Bank of India has directed that all bank branches handling government receipts and payments remain open on March 31, 2026, despite it being a public holiday, to ensure proper accounting of transactions within FY 2025–26.
Banks have also been advised to keep their Currency Chests (CCs) operational on the same day, similar to a normal working day, as government transactions may require cash handling support.
Additionally, banks maintaining Currency Chests must inform their linked branches accordingly to ensure smooth coordination and uninterrupted processing of government transactions.
