Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Andhra Pradesh on February 26, 2026, issued the Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Amendment Bill, 2026, further to amend the Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act, 1977.

It shall be deemed to have come into force with effect from December 01, 2025.

The following has been amended:

• The Amendment Bill introduces significant changes to the regulation of assigned lands in Andhra Pradesh by permitting limited use of such lands for specified public purposes, particularly for projects like green/renewable energy, which were earlier restricted. It aims to balance the original objective of protecting assigned lands (granted to weaker sections) with the need for infrastructure and developmental activities.

• The amendment allows leasing of assigned lands under regulated conditions, ensuring that ownership rights of beneficiaries are not completely alienated.

• Safeguards are incorporated to prevent misuse, including government oversight and restrictions on transferability, while enabling economic utilisation of land.

• Overall, the amendment reflects a shift towards controlled flexibility in land use policy while retaining protective intent for beneficiaries.
